Talabani thanked the
Prime Minster on behalf of the Iraqi and Kurdish
people for Australia’s role in the liberation of Iraq,
and for their commitment to the reconstruction of the
country. He said “The Kurdish and Iraqi people are a
faithful people, and they will remember those that
helped them during the difficult period”.

During his tour of
Australia, Talabani has also met with the Attorney
General Darryl Williams, Minister of Defence Robert
Hill, Minister of Trade Mark Vaile, Minster of
Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry Warren Truss and
the Minster of Immigration and Multi Cultural Affairs
Mr. Phillip Ruddock. The purpose of the official
visit has been to consult with top Australian
officials to strengthen the partnership between the
Kurdish, Iraqi and Australian people and to encourage
Australian investment in the reconstruction of Iraq.
Talabani was also
given a very warm reception and special acknowledgment
of his presence at today’s Parliamentary Session of
Question Time where the Speaker of the House, Prime
Minster and the leader of the opposition warmly
welcomed Talabani and his delegation.
